Head of Data Engineering

About the Role

Responsibilities

You will work in a multi-functional environment to shape and scale a data engineering department capable to fulfill our business and product vision and ultimately bring value to our customers and partners by disrupting the traditional services proposition.

This will require leading the teams of data engineers responsible for designing, implementing and operating our big data and reporting infrastructure seamlessly integrated with our customer-facing platform and at the heart of our business and product decision making process.

This will include:

 Recruit, grow and lead highly motivated and talented data engineering teams responsible end-to-end for implementing and operating our large-scale data infrastructure and data pipelines in the cloud (Amazon AWS), with a focus on high-availability, security, reliability and automation

 Promote engineering excellence and leadership across the board, focusing on effective cross- function collaboration and end-to-end responsibility to ensure data availability, governance and quality for the rest of the business

 Run mission critical services alongside product engineering teams promoting comprehensive monitoring of availability, latency, performance and core business metrics. Constantly improve availability and latency of the data infrastructure to seamlessly integrate it with the production systems

 Introduce effective department-wide processes and best practices to establish a culture of collaboration, including incident resolution and incremental adoption of fault-tolerant, self- healing solutions

 Provide constant guidance, operational management and leadership to set the engineering department on a track of continuous improvement and growth

About You

 10+ years of engineering management experience in building, leading and motivating teams responsible for delivering and running distributed big data platforms preferably in the cloud (particularly AWS)

 6+ years of hands-on technical leadership in delivering highly distributed, large scale data pipelines and reporting tools using big data technologies (Spark, Storm, MapReduce, Hadoop, Pig, Kafka, Redshift …)

 Deep understanding of the implications and the thread-offs of different solutions within complex distributed systems with regards to performance, reliability, availability and security

 Experience in software engineering in any modern language (Python, Scala, Java, Kotlin, C++, C#, Go …) is a plus

 Continuous learner who stays up-to-date with the latest trends and can vet with proper pragmatism and long term vision the adoption of new technologies

 Master’s or PhD degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent working experience.

 Ability to speak and write English fluently
